WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR THESE CHILDREN?
The death of a parent R”L is more than a tragedy in the moment; it carries with it a devastating impact on the lives of the innocent children left behind to tackle life on their own.
Not only are there many practical and material matters that were once handled by the living parent which now sit unfulfilled, but their tragic passing also introduces an emotional void, where children no longer have the person they could always rely on for support, encouragement, and a healthy childhood. From walking them to shul to finding them a shidduch, and from taking them to the doctor to finding them a suitable yeshiva or school, life is turned upside down for these heartbroken boys and girls.
If that’s not enough, the very home itself will often turn into a source of sadness and dysfunction as the devastated and overwhelmed surviving parent struggles to hold the family together.
Who steps up?
Is it even possible to replace the loss of a biological parent?
Of course not. But there is so much that can be done to ease their burden and provide for them during these difficult years.
For nearly a decade, this has been the mission of Tov V’Chesed under the leadership of Rabbi Yakov Eliezer Shisha who founded the Buneinu and Bnoseinu projects to stand beside these children from the critical moments of yetzias neshama until they go under the chuppah BEZ”H.
Buneinu and Bnoseinu’s services are as varied as the needs of the yesomim and yesomos. Whatever is necessary, that’s what they will do. The word NO isn’t in their dictionary!
Homes away from home
In multiple larger cities across Israel there are Buneinu and Bnoseinu centers where children can come by whenever school’s out to eat a nourishing meal, play, relax, spend time with peers, or even just to get away from life at home in a positive environment.
Private tutors, mentors and therapists are constantly provided to the children, as well as programming and uplifting events. The massive Shabbatons for different age groups are a major highlight in the efforts to boost every child’s well-being — with great impact.
Preparing for the big day
Every yasom and yesomah looks forward to the day when they will be able to start a new life by building a home of their own. But without financial capabilities, the road to their wedding night is filled with stress and angst.
Tov V’Chesed alleviates their burden through the Simcha Fund which directly covers all their wedding night expenses, as well as the Hakramim Hall where the entire wedding night is arranged for them free of charge. These services not only provide for them in time of need but also make their simcha complete and even empower them to consider more shidduchim and gain the confidence that brighter days are ahead.
Food and clothing for the hungry
These services are offered in addition to the hundreds of widowed households who are provided with weekly food packages which ensure that hunger doesn’t take hold in their homes. Thousands of additional families receive monthly distributions, on top of the tens of thousands who can only welcome Yom Tov due to the organization’s 3 million pounds of food support.
In recent years, the group has expanded to provide each child with the new clothing they need each year so that they do not feel less than other children on Yom Tov and all year round.
Whose children are these?
But who is responsible for these children? Who has an achrayis to the children of the Avi Yesomim?
The answer is clear: all of Klal Yisroel! We are all bound by this duty that the Torah places on us!

על מי נטשת אלה הצאן?
חלל מייסר נוצר בחייו של ילד שמאבד ל"ע את אחד מהוריו.
כאשר אחד מן ההורים נפטר ל"ע לבית עולמו, מתגלה באחת חלל כואב על כל צעד ושעל אצל הילד, חלל המורכב מתפקידים אבהיים ואימהיים שלדאבון לב אינם מיושמים עוד, ועלול לגרור אחריו נזק מתמשך לאורך חייו של הילד, הן בגוף, הן בנפש.
מי ימלא תפקידם, החל ממילה טובה בסך הכל, ליטוף או חיוך, דרך לימוד עם הילד, שיתוף פעולה עם מלמדים כאשר נוצר קושי כלשהו, להרגיע כשמשהו כואב, לקחת לביהמ"ד, לרשום לישיבות, למצוא ישיבה מתאימה, ללכת לרופא או טיפול, לעזור בשידוכים ועוד הרבה מעבר.
לעיתים קרובות עלולה אף לצוץ בעיה חדשה – הבית בו גדל הילד הופך להיות למקום אפוף צער, מכאוב וגעגוע. לא פעם שוררים מתיחות ואי נוחות כללית בבית. להיכן יכול ילד כזה לצאת מעט, על מנת להתאוורר ולהשתחרר מכל הצער והמתיחות האלו?
מי יתן להם תמורתם?
וכי מסוגל אי מי למלא את תפקידם של אבא או אמא, אשר למגינת לב הלך מהעולם לבלי שוב?
האמת היא שאכן אין אף אחד שיכול לעשות זאת בשלמות. אך למחצה, לשליש ולרביע - אפשר גם אפשר. ובנקודה זאת הארגון הקדוש "טוב וחסד" נכנס לתמונה. הארגון פועל תחת ניהולו של הרב יעקב אליעזר שישא שליט"א, אשר הכיר בצורך קורע הלב הזה, וייסד את ארגוני "בנינו" ו"בנותינו", בכדי שאלו יעמדו לימינם של אלפי יתומים ויתומות, החל מרגע יציאת הנשמה, ועד לליל כלולותיהם בשעה טובה.
בנינו ובנותינו מעמידים לרשותם של היתומים כל צורך ודרישה, מכל סוג, שרק מזדמנים בדרך. אין דבר אשר יתום או יתומה זקוקים להם, ואשר בנינו ובנותינו יתנו להם להבין שאין זה מתפקידם.
ויעש להם בתים
בתי בנינו ובנותינו בערים הגדולות בארה"ק, מהווים מרכזים נעימים וחמימים עבור היתומים והיתומות, שיכולים להיכנס לשם מדי יום לאחר הלימודים בחדר, בישיבה ובבית הספר. שם הם מבלים, משחקים, קוראים, אוכלים ולומדים, או אפילו רק יושבים שם ומעבירים עוד שעה באווירה נעימה ומרגיעה.
בנינו ובנותינו מעמידים לרשות הזקוקים לכך מלמדים ומורות פרטיים, מסייעים בהגשת טיפולים לאלו שנדרשים לכך, כמו כן הם מארגנים שבתות נפלאות וקסומות מספר פעמים בשנה, טיולים מהנים ומסיבות מרוממות ומשובבות נפש ביומי דפגרא.
כיצד מרקדין?
איך מסוגלים יתום ויתומה לחשוב בכלל על ריקוד ביום שמחת לבם, בו בזמן שאינם יודעים עדיין מי יטול על שכמו את כל הוצאות החתונה האדירות? בדיוק למטרה זו הקים "טוב וחסד" את פרויקט השמחה הגדול באולמי הכרמים. בכך דואגים למעשה לכל יתום ויתומה לכל צרכי ליל נישואיהם, תוך מימון כל הנדרש, עד לפרוטה האחרונה, כדי שהחתן והכלה יוכלו לגשת ליומם הגדול והשמח בתחושה מרוממת ובלב שליו ומתרונן.
מזון וצידה השביע לנפשם
בנוסף לכך, קיים בטוב וחסד פרויקט עצום של חלוקות מזון ממנו נהנים מאות אלמנות ויתומים אשר מקבלים מידי שבוע בשבוע ומידי חודש בחדשו חלוקות מזון. אלו מבטיחים שלא יחסר מזון בבתיהם אף פעם, וחלילה לא ישרור בהם רעב.
כמו כן ישנם חלוקות מזון חודשיות עבור אלפי ילדים בני עניים ואביונים שבארץ ישראל, וחלוקות חגים גרנדיוזיות בהן מחולקים לעשרות אלפי עניי ארה"ק מעל 3 מיליון פונט של מאכלים לכבוד יו"ט.
היתום והיתומה – על כתפי מי הם?
אל מי שייכים אותם ילדים של אבי היתומים?
על מי מוטלת האחריות לדאוג לרווחתם, בכדי שלא יחסר להם מאום?
