GOING HUNGRY ON SHABBOS?

YES, THE THREAT IS REAL!

In our world, we Baruch Hashem never have to worry about our children going to sleep with a stomach growling from hunger.

But in our holiest of cities, in the narrow and winding streets of quaint Meah Shearim, thousands of children do not know whether each evening will see some meager food on their table or will be another night of crying themselves to sleep hungry.

Yes, today! In 2022!

How much greater is the tragedy when Shabbos arrives and the sounds of zemiros echo out across the neighborhood, but in these struggling homes the children have nothing. No grape juice, no challah, no fish, and of course, no chicken or meat.

Enter the good folks at Masbia Lchol Chai, led by the tireless askan, Harav Zalman Dov Birnhak Shlit”a. Every day, they provide these families with life essentials such as bread, milk, eggs and more so that the children can receive the nourishment they need to alleviate their hunger and grow healthy. And for Shabbos, they distribute coupons to help them purchase the food and Shabbos basics they so desperately yearn for. The results save their home, strengthen their families and help positively mold their future!

This week, as families and friends commemorate the yahrtzeit of the beloved Rivka Yocheved Deutsch A”H, the community is joining forces to honor her legacy and continue in her noble ways. Mrs. Deutsch was renowned for her passion for Shabbos, as she would get ready each week before Friday at chatzos. She was also proud of her commitment to supporting the efforts of the aforementioned Masbia Lchol Chai so that children in Yerushalayim can also be part of the glorious Shabbos day.

This week’s L’kovod Shabbos Kodesh campaign will help Harav Birnhak and his team be there for those reliant on his critical support. Together, we will make a difference and brighten the Shabbos, as well as the everyday lives of those who need it most!

The zechus of supporting the poor and the zechus of sanctifying Shabbos Kodesh will surely be of great merit to those who partake in this undertaking.
