Like a thunderstorm in the middle of a clear day came the bitter news, that the beloved mother and highly respected community member, Mrs. Kriendel Cohen a”h, had passed away after battling a long and painful fight with cancer.

The painful news was greeted with sadness and angst by all the family members, neighbors, and friends who shed countless tears for the beloved mother and loyal friend who was suddenly taken at the young age of only forty-three years, leaving a family of kids behind. They wept for the children that had suddenly turned into orphans and the loyal husband who had devoted his heart and soul to helping his wife battle the illness, and never gave up on praying for her recovery.

Although many simply give up right away when they get the dreaded diagnosis, the beloved mother fought like a lion for her life, and devoted herself fully to her husband and children. Instead of turning bitter and miserable, she chose to spend her time doing more and more chesed for others. She was an active volunteer for many years in the Refuah Helpline organization, where she created close relationships with the sick members of Klal Yisroel, and gave them strength and support in whatever way possible. She wrote them poems full of Emunah and hope and comforted them with the words of encouragement and support they desperately needed to stay strong.

Seven years ago, the highly respected and beloved Mrs. Cohen a”h, was sadly diagnosed with cancer. Since then, the situation only worsened until the seventh day of Chanukah, when her holy neshama left this world and was called to the kiseh hakavod.

Throughout her fierce battle with cancer, she fought every day to live, yet kept a smile on her face. She accepted all the pain and suffering with love and stayed strong in her Emunah that it was a decree from above.

Her devoted husband was by her side the entire time, serving her with utmost devotion and care. He prayed continuously for her recovery and never gave up hope that she would make it through. Yet, in heaven, they decreed that it was not meant to be. Unfortunately, we were not privileged to make a seudah hadoah for her recovery.

Now it came to the situation where we had to set up and establish a fund for the fresh orphans who are still at home. They are now alone without their beloved mother. They will never be able to get a warm kiss from her again or receive her encouraging smile.

Understandably, seven long years of fighting and holding onto life cost an immense amount of money, and now the responsibility lies on us, Klal Yisroel. We need to ensure that the vulnerable orphans have a secure future by setting up a fund to cover their wedding expenses and all other expenses that a yiddish household needs.

The children are crying, “Mommy, where are you?!!!” And Klal Yisroel is answering, “Here we are! Your mother is unfortunately not here, but Klal Yisroel is here!”

אין דער צייט וואס פילע אין אלגעמיין טוען אויפגעבן פון די ערשטע מינוט נאכן ווערן דיאגנאזירט ל״ע האט די חשוב׳ע פרוי געקעמפט ווי א לייב פאר איר לעבן, זיך אוועקגעבנדיג אינגאנצן פאר איר חשוב׳ער מאן און טייערע קינדערלעך. אנשטאט זיין פארטרויערט און דערביטערט האט זי אויסגענוצט אירע טעג צו טון נאך און נאך חסדים רבים מיט אנדערע. פאר יארן איז זי געווען אקטיוו אינערהאלב די וואוילטעטיגע רפואה העלפליין ארגאנעזאציע, ווי זי פלעגט אנהאלטן א נאנטע קשר מיט די חולי ישראל הנתונים על ערש דוי, און זי פלעגט זיי מחזק זיין אויף יעדן אופן וואס איז נאר געווען מעגליך, שרייבנדיג פאומ׳ס פון חיזוק און אמונה, און באגלייטנדיג זיי מיט די נויטיגע דיבורים וואס זיי האבן אזוי וויכטיג געדארפט האבן.

מיט זיבן יאר צוריק איז די חשוב׳ע מרת כהן ע״ה ליידער דיאגנאזירט געווארן מיט די ביטערע מחלה ה״י און זינט דאן איז דער מצב געווארן שמעלער און שמעלער, ביז די פארגאנגענע נר שביעי של חנוכה, ווען איר אויסגעלייטערטע נשמה האט פארלאזט אונזער וועלט, און ארויפגערופן געווארן צום כסא הכבוד, לדאבון לב פון די גאנצע משפחה. דורכאויס די גאנצע תקופה פון איר מחלה האט זי געקעמפט יעדן טאג עקסטער צו לעבן, זי האט מיט א שמייכל מקבל געווען די ביטערע יסורים וואס עס איז איר פארשריבן געווארן פון הימל און האט געדינט אלס מוסטער פון מקבל זיין יסורים באהבה.

דער חשוב׳ער מאן האט דורכאויס די גאנצע פינסטערע צייט געטריי באדינט זיין אשת חיל אויפן קראנקן בעט, און האט תמיד מתפלל געווען און געהאפט אויף א גענצליכע רפואה. ליידער איז אבער אנדערש פארשריבן געווארן אין הימל, און מען האט נישט זוכה געווען צו פראווען א סעודת הודאה.

אצינד איז געקומען א מצב אז מען דארף אוועקשטעלן און פעסטשטעלן א קרן יתומים פאר די פרישע יתומים׳לעך וועלכע געפינען זיך אינדערהיים, זיי וועלן שוין נישט זוכה זיין צו קריגן א ווארעמע קוש פון די מאמע, זיי וועלן שוין נישט זוכה זיין צו זען איר ליבליכע שמייכל. זעלבסטפארשטענדליך אז זיבן פינסטערע יאר פון זיך ראנגלען אין שפיטעלער אויפן לעבן קאסט אפ א הון רב, און אויף אונז אחינו בני ישראל ליגט די אחריות און פאראנטווארטליכקייט צו פארזיכערן אז די יתומים׳לעך האבן א זיכערער עתיד דורכן אוועקשטעלן א קרן וואס זאל זיין גרייט אויסצוצאלן זייערע חתונות, און די אלע אנדערע אויסגאבן וואס א אידישע שטוב קאסט אפ.
